Reduce Strain on Eyes

Beautiful eyes, Long vision, heathy eyesWhen we think of exercises, we generally think of different body exercises. But our eyes too need exercises so as to remain healthy and fresh. Eyes get strained due to using computer, watching TV or by doing any normal activity of the day. Serious and continuous eye strain can cause a number of other problems from headache and neck aches to conditions like Myopia.
The exercise and relaxation for eyes even more important if you are spending hours staring at your computer screen. The strain on eyes can be draining and tiring on your entire body. Here are simple easy eye exercises that can relax and even strengthen the eyes by reducing eye fatigue.

Exercise 1: Focusing
This exercise trains your eyes to work together to focus at the same object. Hold a pen(focus object) in front of your face, about an arm’s length away. Move it toward your nose slowly, staring at the same place on the pen. Bring the pen as close as you can to the tip of your nose before you see a double image.

Exercise 2: Shifting Focus
This exercise improves eye flexibility. Hold your thumb six inches from your nose. Focus on your thumb. Take one deep breath and exhale slowly. Then focus on any object about 10 feet away. Take another deep breath and slowly exhale. Repeat this movement for 15 times

Exercise 3: Scanning
This exercise improves eye flexibility. Sitting or standing at one end of a room, let your eyes scan around the objects in the room -televisions, doors, lights, computers, anything in the room, without completely focusing on any object. The objective of this exercise is to keep your eyes moving in a loose and fluid way. Do this exercise for two minutes.

Exercise 4: Palming
This exercise is to rest and relax your eyes. First, rub your hands together until they feel warm (about 15 to 20 seconds). Then place your cupped hands over your closed eyes, being careful not to touch your eyes with the palms of your hands. The fingers of each hand should overlap. Don't create pressure on your face. If your arms get tired, rest your elbows on a table. Sit quietly for one to two minutes with your hands over your eyes. Keep your eyes covered for two to three minutes for the best effect.

Exercise 5: The eye roller
This exercise improves the flow of blood and oxygen to your eyes. Close your eyes and slowly roll them in a complete circle. Then, move them from right to left and left to right. Repeat three times.

Also remember to
• Eat Vitamin A rich foods like Carrot
• Blink often! Blinking moisturizes and refreshes your eyes.
• Drink lots of water.
• Take breaks away from your computer desk periodically.
